“No one has yet realized the wealth of sympathy, the kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure”. Emma Goldman
For many of us in Holy Cross, mission expresses itself in the education of youth in schools, colleges and universities. Teaching in the Holy Cross tradition is clearly a ministry of the Congregation. In our teaching and preaching, we confront the truth of the Gospel. Jesus our master, called his disciples to be fishers of men and to proclaim the Kingdom of God. Jesus taught with authority about God’s Kingdom. He called the disciples to be with him, to bring liberty to the captives and to proclaim the good news to the poor. Fr. Moreau the founding father of Holy Cross wrote “We shall always place education side by side with instructions; the mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart”. Fr. Moreau defined a Holy Cross education when he said that true education consisted in forming the hearts of young people, educating in love and for love. We believe that children’s emotions should matter more to us than their knowledge of geography or mathematics or science because it is these emotions that will serve as a driving force for their personal development and that will lead them to be the responsible citizens of our nation.
We believe education is a life-long learning process. Learning happens all the time; not only in a pre-designated place called the school. It happens in the home, between home and school too. The home’s and school’s mission therefore is to provide a learning environment and opportunities to the children as the learners. We strive to provide an environment that is basically sacred, and has a framework of discipline that is flexible yet supportive, a freedom that allows students to learn even from their mistakes, to develop into person molded by freedom and responsibility. I believe that an authentic education is only possible by the constant interaction between, context, experience, reflection, action and evaluation between parents, students and teachers.
We at St. Andre target to prepare every child for their career and to become good citizens of India imbibed with zeal and the spirit of service proclaimed by the teachings of Jesus Christ. The school activities are planned and prepared meticulously, giving equal importance to academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. These activities are strategically implemented to ensure the overall development of the students and to develop integrity and moral stamina and unselfish idealism in the students through teaching and other activities of the school.
I believe your child’s learning involves and revolves around an effective partnership between home & school. We know the stronger the partnership is, the more your child will benefit. Parents play a vital role in the overall development of the child. The foundation of a successful school is the cooperation between the students, staff and parents.
We all know that learning is social, and in this context we encourage you to come and speak to us in person for a more detailed perspective. I look forward to working with you as we help to create a school where parents are welcome at anytime, students are engaged in meaningful learning and the staff members are valued and appreciated for their efforts. Together let us unlock the treasure of sympathy, kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of every child.
